Senior Analyst, Analytics & Insights

San Diego, CA
Full Time
Turnstile Capital Management
Experienced
Job Description:
The Senior Analyst, Analytics & Insights is critical in turning data into meaningful stories.  We’re looking for someone who can do more than just crunch numbers — someone who can bring data to life. This role sits at the intersection of analytics, storytelling, and strategy, translating complex information into clear, actionable insights for both internal teams and external clients.

You’ll spend most of your time transforming raw data into compelling visual stories that explain why performance is changing — not just what is changing. You’ll also design and automate reports, consult with clients on data-driven decisions, and help shape how our company (and our clients) think about loan performance, operations, and more.

This isn’t a data engineering role — we’re not looking for someone who wants to spend all day optimizing pipelines. We’re looking for an analyst who thinks like a consultant, understands the business behind the data, and can communicate findings with confidence and clarity to audiences ranging from executives to front-line staff.

Responsibilities:
1. Craft and Present Insights
  • Build and deliver monthly performance slide decks that tell a clear, cohesive story about loan portfolio performance and operational trends
  • Present findings to clients — from C-suite executives to operational teams — and confidently answer questions on the fly
  • Act as a data consultant: helping clients interpret results, understand key drivers, and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Work across several business topics to explain activity and monitor performance, from loan portfolio performance, call center metrics, operational & loan servicing activity, collections efficacy, and more
2. Analyze, Build, and Improve
  • Develop dashboards and recurring reports in tools like Tableau, SuperSet, or SSRS that empower stakeholders to explore data independently
  • Write SQL queries to extract and transform data from dozens of systems; create and maintain datasets optimized for reporting and analysis
  • Maintain the highest degree of accuracy and quality to support trusted, robust analytics Partner with data engineering to resolve data issues, enhance data quality, and improve usability across data sources
3. Manage Requests and Projects
  • Handle a variety of ad-hoc and recurring reporting requests — both internal and client-facing — with a high degree of accuracy and reliability
  • Juggle multiple priorities and projects, balancing daily deliverables with long-term analytical initiatives
  • Work across departments (Operations, Finance, Compliance, etc.) to define metrics, build dashboards, and uncover insights that drive business decisions
  • Lead analytical projects that explore new metrics, daily performance tracking, and data storytelling methods
  • Continuously seek ways to improve efficiency, automation, and clarity in reporting

Education & Other Minimum Requirements:
  • 2–4+ years of experience in data analysis or business intelligence
  • Strong SQL skills — comfortable querying, joining, and manipulating data from multiple systems
  • Proficiency with a modern data visualization tool (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, or SuperSet).
  • Proven experience presenting analytical insights to varied audiences — technical and non-technical alike
  • Exceptional organization and time management in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to distill complex analyses into clear, actionable narratives
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a self-starter mindset
  • Demonstrated history of crafting and maintaining metrics, KPI's, dashboards, and other analyses
  • Ability to work independently with large, complex, and sometimes messy or unfamiliar datasets – including validating data, identifying inconsistencies, and troubleshooting data quality issues

Bonus points if you have:
  • Experience with data automation or light ETL work using tools like Python, DataBricks, or SQL Server Agent
  • Familiarity with relational database management (e.g. stored procedures, creating tables and views, MERGE statements)
  • Background in finance, lending, or a similar data-rich, regulated industry
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative or analytical discipline (e.g. Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science)

Qualities we look for in our candidates:
  • Someone who's not just fluent in SQL, but fluent in why the data matters
  • Willingness to ask questions, chase down answers, and turn spreadsheets into stories
  • Someone equally comfortable designing a dashboard, explaining KPIs to executives, and brainstorming new analyses that drive business impact
  • An ability to think in hypotheses, a love for connecting dots between data and business outcomes, and pride in helping others see what the numbers mean

Competitive pay with bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes, but not limited to:
  • Salary range: $95,000-$105,000 annually
  • 401(k) + company match up to 4%
  • Long Term Incentive program
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Annual HSA contribution of $1,650
  • Life insurance, disability, and critical illness
  • Birthday holiday
  • 2 floating Community Days
  • Free snacks and drinks in the office
  • Tuition reimbursement program
  • Generous PTO, including Paid Parental Leave
  • $2,000 Vacation Incentive Plan after 3 years + $1,000 Sabbatical Day
  • Community funds, wellness funds, and more
